The awards keep on coming in for the Maine-Endwell Spartans and Chenango Forks Blue Devils. The New York State Sports Writers Association has named M-E Quarterback Kyle Gallagher Class B Player of the Year. Additionally, Forks fullback Isaiah Zimmer has been named Class C Co-Player of the year, sharing honors with Babylon wide receiver Jake Carlock.
Since assuming starting duties, Gallagher has led the Spartans to three straight state titles and a perfect 34-0 record. Gallagher was the driving force behind the Spartans 75-yard game winning drive in the final minute-plus of the State Championship against Schalmont, and tossed the game winning two-point conversion to give the Spartans their final lead of the game.
Zimmer's senior year was just as remarkable. He set a school rushing record with 2,054 yards on the ground, 962 of them coming in the playoffs alone. Zimmer was named as State Finals MVP after a 39 carry, 175 yard, three touchdown performance.
Section IV didn't stop with just two players of the year, though. Ten other players were named to first-teams All-State.
M-E running back Darnell Woolfolk and safety/receiver Alec Wisniewski were both named to the first-team Class B.
Chenango Forks offensive lineman Hunter Luybli, defensive lineman Mike Zurenda, and linebacker Ryan Bronson were named to the first-team Class C.
In Class D, Tioga running back Jesse Manuel, offensive lineman Dylan Babcock, and defensive lineman Carter Jackson were named to the first-team. Joining them are Sidney defensive lineman Austin Dean and Elmira Notre Dame linebacker Tom Agan.
Class AA and A selections will be announced next week.
